Lapel pins are worn in unofficial capacities, on personal clothing, commemorating the award. Most presentation cases are manufactured so as to accommodate the lapel pin and when service members are awarded decorations in formal ceremonies - where the award is issued in a presentation case - the lapel pin is then included.
