NATO ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) Medal Criteria: Awarded to all U.S. Armed Forces personnel having served with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan as members of units or staffs in the Joint Operations Area in the country. The area of eligibility is delineated by the political boundaries of the International Security Assistance Force. The service must be 30 days either continuous or accumulated from July 31, 2006, to a future date yet-to-be determined. Note: We are currently replacing our NATO ISAF stock with traditional U.S. military mounting backings. Previously we had manufactured our NATO ISAF medals with European-style pin-mounted backings unlike traditional U.S.-style backings. The appearance is identical to U.S. awards when mounted, however. For a temporary time, it is possible the NATO ISAF medal you receive will have the European-style pin-mounted backings while we transition our inventory.
