Salvage Diver Badge Criteria: Awarded to United States Army soldiers with the rank of sergeant who retain the military occupational specialty 21D20 (Diver), maintain current basic life support CPR qualifications according to American Red Cross or American Heart Association standards, meet Army Physical Fitness Test physical standards and minimum Diver Physical Fitness Test standards, have qualified as salvage divers within 12 months of SGT promotion, and have maintained current qualification dive status in accordance with Army standards. The award was created on February 15, 1944. Other Army Diver Badges include the Second Class, First Class, Master, and Special Operations Diver Badges. The Salvage Diver Badge’s diver’s helmet is the basic equipment with the letter “S” superimposed on the design – reflecting salvage activities including harbor clearance, rock and concrete blasting, steel and timber removal, and the removal of watercraft/ship propellers for replacement.
