Sapper Tab - Dress Metal (Regulation Size) Criteria: Awarded to U.S. Army personnel successfully completing the Sapper Leader Course operated by the U.S. Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. An individual does not need to hold the Combat Engineer designation (MOS) in order to wear the tab. The tab was authorized on June 28, 2004 by the Army Chief of Staff, General Peter Schoomaker and is retroactive back to the graduates of the first SLC on June 14, 1985. The Sapper Tab is authorized for simultaneous wear with the Ranger, Special Forces, and President's Hundred Tabs. Only three permanent tabs may be worn at once. In order of seniority (based solely on length), they are the President's Hundred Tab, the Special Forces Tab, the Ranger Tab, and the Sapper Tab.
